Why we compete

 

While titles are not the most important thing for a dog, we believe that dogsports and other activities can open up new ways to have fun with your dog and also help teach young dogs life skills that will make them the best companions they can possible be! 

Sports and events can help dogs learn patience, focus, and get them used to a variety of sights and sounds, as well as other dogs and people. We strong reccomend that all of our puppy homes at least attend a group training class with their puppies, and encourage competing in various venues.

Conformation Shows 

Conformation shows began as a way for breeders to evaluate breeding stock, and are judged on how closely a dog fits the written breed standard. We've competed in conformation for over 20 years. If you're interested in learning to show we'd be more than happy to help, and with advance notice can definitely bring a dog suitable for a novice to show to any event we're attending.

Scent Sports

 

A new (to us!) venue. During the last few years we've been excited to debut our dogs in NASDA (shed dog, quarry tracking, etc), Blood Trailing, AKC Scentwork and NACSW Scentwork! In the future we hope to add Mantrailing, Tracking, Barn Hunt, and Truffle Hunting. We highly encourage owners to find activities like this that allow their dogs to exhibit and fulfill their natural instincts! Classes are abundant in the PNW, and if in person events aren't your cup of tea both AKC and Fenzi have online tiling options.  

 

Lure Sports

Lure sports are a great outlet for a dog's prey drive! A dog chases a lure (usually a plastic bag) around a course, or in a straight dash. While we compete in Lure Coursing a little bit with Laska the Borzoi, we also run the Black and Tans and Bean the Boston in FastCAT and CAT! 

 

Agility, Rally, Trick Dog

We're training in these! Sadie is working on her Trick Dog Performer, Laska and Bean are taking agility classes and we have several hounds training for fun in Rally! Agility of course is a dog obstacle course, while Rally obedience is a style of Obedience where you perform the commands written on signs. Trick dog is teaching your dog sets of tricks in increasing difficulty!

 

Dock Diving

We're terrible at it, but we have several regulation splashes and are hopeful that someday we'll get the hang of it! Dock diving is a distance jump into a pool off a dock above the water. This is a great way to spend a summer weekend with your dog!
